SFJ5KEF: Arctic Desert and Ice Cap / 5 days
Departures from Keflavik

The wildlife area of Kangerlussuaq offers superb opportunities to spot Arctic animal species such as musk oxen and reindeer. With easy access to the inland ice cap, Kangerlussuaq has an abundance of extraordinary excursions - you just have to choose whether you want to explore on foot, by 4x4 wheel drive or perhaps by aircraft!

Kangerlussuaq

Kangerlussuaq (meaning "Big Fjord" in Greenlandic) is the main gateway into Greenland. A former US Airbase (known as Bluie West Eight), it is today a small settlement of approximately 500 people but with a great choice of excursions and facilities to keep travelers entertained.

The location approx. 160km inland from the coast makes Kangerlussuaq one of the most weather-stable destinations in Greenland with lots of sunshine.

The Kangerlussuaq area is unique in terms of natural diversity – apart from being the only place in Greenland where you can drive directly to the Inland Ice Cap, it is also home for muskoxen, reindeer, and gyrfalcons. All three can be seen on regular run excursions into the Arctic countryside.
