Iceland is situated in the North Atlantic - a world beyond compare. The first thing the Vikings saw centries ago when they arrived in South Iceland, was the glacier Vatnajökull. Therefore they named the land, Iceland. However, there is much more to this fascinating country. 

This is the ultimate tour, with suitable time spent at Iceland´s major nature spots. Explore the dramatic landscape and some of the world’s finest waterfalls like Gullfoss, Goðafoss and Skógarfoss. Visit erupting geysers in the great Geysir hot spring area and Thingvellir, a UNESCO world heritage site.

All cars are supplied by a major car-rental company who have several branch offices around Iceland. Choose between several types of cars or 4W jeeps. The satellite navigation system possible to rent (at a surcharge) will also give you information about the flora, history and interesting things you pass on the way. Voiced in 10 languages and detailed full colour maps.

Day 1

Individual transfer from Keflavik Airport or Reykjavik Domestic Airport by scheduled airport bus to your hotel.
Spend the day exploring Reykjavik – a vibrant city with lots of charming cafes, shops, museums and galleries.

Day 2

Breakfast at the hotel. Individual transfer to the car-rental office in Reykjavik. Pick-up rental car.

Explore the valley of Borgarfjörður with its waterfalls, hot springs and historic sites. Visit Europe's most powerful hot spring Deildartunguhver.

Reykholt is one of Iceland’s major historic sites, and the area is full of lava fields, waterfalls, craters and caves.

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel. On your way up north, stop at the historical site Glaumbær turf farm.

Upon arrival at Akureyri, explore the town called 'the capital of North Iceland'. Akureyri topped Lonely Planet's list of ten best places to visit in Europe 2015 and with good reason: The town is an easy-going place and a great base for exploring the North's green pastures, fishing villages, mud pots, waterfalls, and whale-filled bays. Tonight you stay in Husavik; famous for its whale watching tours.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive on Tjörnes peninsula and visit Europe’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss (mid June to August).

Take your time to explore the beautiful Lake Myvatn area. Located in the heart of north-east Iceland, with its unique nature and rich birdlife, Lake Myvatn is one of Europe's greatest natural treasures.Later continue east through the impressive landscape to Egilsstadir before ending in the village of Fáskrúðsfjörður.

Day 5

Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive along the scenic fjords of East Iceland and enjoy the small town of Höfn. Explore the Vatnajökull glacier, Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and Skaftafell National Park.

Vatnajökull is the largest and most voluminous ice cap in Iceland, and one of the largest in Europe.

The large glacier lagoon is a unique place with icebergs constantly breaking off from the glacier and eventually drifting through the short river to the sea. The waves turn some of the icebergs back to the black sand beach, where they lie scattered like gems.

Day 6

Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive along the south coast and witness many natural wonders such as black lava beaches, waterfalls and glaciers. The folk museum at Skógar is well worth a visit, it is close to the impressive Skogarfoss waterfall.

Tonight you are staying at the lovely Fosshotel Hekla in Selfoss, situated close to Mt. Hekla in South Iceland, Eyjafjallajökull volcano and Fimmvörðuháls.

Day 7

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today your first stop should be at Þingvellir national park, a UNESCO world heritage site.

The park rests in a valley created by the power of the tectonic plates drifting apart. Keep on driving to Haukadalur hot spring area, where you will see several hot springs, the most active being the geyser Strokkur, which erupts every 10 minutes.

The next stop is the Gullfoss waterfall, which falls in two cascades into a narrow and deep gorge. Further on, you can visit the church and historical site of Skálholt before heading on to the volcanic crater Kerið.

Drop-off the rental car at the car-rental office in Reykjavik. Individual transfer to hotel in Reykjavik.

Day 8

Breakfast at the hotel. Individual transfer by Flybus to Keflavik Airport. Flybus departs from your hotel - please inform the reception of your departure time the day before leaving.
