Saturday Departure from Reykjavik

Icebergs, fjords, and various wildlife. Greenland deserves a top place in the list of “The place you must visit at least once in your life.” If you plan to travel to Greenland, South Greenland is definitely worth visiting, especially in the summertime.

The fertile mountains, the historical sites from the Viking Age, and the trademark of Greenland – Icebergs! Compared to other parts of Greenland, South Greenland is like a gentle and caring lady, showing you the beauty of Arctic summer. No wonder it is called the “garden of Greenland”!

Speaking of travel, many people may say they are “too occupied at work to explore the world.” Well, it is not a good excuse. Departing on Saturday from Reykjavik, this 4-day escape from reality is a perfect choice! Just have two days-off and treat yourself with a peaceful and amazing holiday.

Transfers, hotels, and flight tickets are all included in this itinerary. All you need to do is relax and enjoy it. Besides, we have prepared a range of optional excursions to add on to the basic itinerary.

Day by day & Tour Map

Day 1 Arrive at Qaqortoq from Narsarsuaq

South Greenland is famous for its fjord system. I believe the amazing fjord must have attracted your attention when you are on the flight of Air Iceland.

After arriving at Airport Narsarsuaq, you can get on the shuttle bus to harbour using the booking ticket. At the harbour, you get on the boat and sail to Qaqortoq through amazing Erik’s Fjord. As the boat sailing towards the wide ocean, you can feel the refreshing air, hear the peaceful waves and see the gigantic icebergs.

When we arrive at the pier, Arctic Adventure guide will take care of the transportation and help you check-in at Hotel Qaqortoq. An information meeting will be held to brief you about this exciting adventure.

Tonight, a 2-course dinner is served at Hotel Qaqortoq to mark an ending of today’s adventure.

Accommodations

Hotel Qaqortoq, standard room incl. breakfast

Day 2 Qaqortoq: City Walk & Hvalsey Church Ruin or Boat Excursion to Inland Ice Cap

Qaqortoq is seen as the hidden garden and the most beautiful town of South Greenland. Lying between the fjord of Qaqortoq and the lake of Tasersuaq, Qaqortoq enjoys various stone carvings and sculptures.

Today, a City Tour is arranged and included in the itinerary. Arctic Adventure guide will show you the main attractions around this town and tell you some fun facts in this area. The city walk lasts around 2 hours.

After the city tour, you can join one of our boat tours to explore the historical aspect of South Greenland - Hvalsey Church Ruin. During this excursion, we will sail out to a nearby island Hvalsey and visit the Norse ruins there. Arctic Adventure guide will introduce the history, stories and interesting facts behind the ruins.

If you think 3-hour boat tour cannot satisfy you, you can opt to a more extended adventure.

Boat Excursion to Inland Ice Cap starts from the busy harbour of Qaqortoq. We will sail past the fjord and head to the impressive Twin Glacier. As approaching closer to the glacier, we can go ashore on a small rock emerging from the glacier front. In some cases, you can even touch the ice cap on this small rock! On the way back, we will pass by the bird’s cliff and a magnificent waterfall. This excursion lasts around 6 hours and is a must-do activity during your stay in South Greenland. Please note, this excursion is not guided. However, transfer and pick up are included.

Accommodations

Hotel Qaqortoq, standard room incl. breakfast

Optional Activities Hvalsey Church Ruin – 3 hours, Difficulty 2 Boat Excursion to the Inland Ice Cap in Qaqortoq – 6 hours, Difficulty 3

Day 3 Narsarsuaq: Short hike to the ridge

Today we will say goodbye to Qaqortoq and head to Narsarsuaq for more adventures! There are two ways to go to Narsarsuaq – by helicopter or by boat – it depends on the availability. If the helicopter is available, we will fly in a low altitude over the magnificent Arctic landscape to Narsarsuaq. It’s going to be a memorable way to start a new day of adventure!

But, in the days that the helicopters are not available, we will take the boat and sail through the beautiful fjords.

After checking-in at Hotel Narsarsuaq, we can join the optional activity – Shore Hike to the Ridge. Alternatively, you can rest or explore the settlement yourself.

Short Hike to the Ridge is a 3-hour guided hiking excursion. We will walk past a flower valley and hike up to a 300-metre highland. From there, we can overlook streams, fjord and the glacier in the distance.

Day 4: Narsarsuaq: City Tour & Back Home

Today is the last you in South Greenland. Before heading to the airport, a City Tour of Narsarsuaq is arranged and included in the itinerary.

Together with Arctic Adventure guide, we will walk around in this small yet amazing settlement. You can immerse yourself in the UNESCO historical sites, ruins from centuries ago, sheep farms, green fields and icebergs floating in the fjord. You can get to know the nature and history essence of this settlement.

Later, Arctic Adventure Guide will transfer you to the airport. We hope the 4-day adventure has created a lifetime memory for you and see you next time!
