A classic dog sledding trip when visiting the Arctic
Dogsledding in Kangerlussuaq offers a smooth and pleasant trip over flat ice on the fjord. Across the thick ice, the you will get a feel for the sledge dogs’ agile movements and innate environmental awareness of sledge dogs and leave you with a deeper understanding of how close and important dogsledding is to survival in the Arctic. Everything around you is calm, all you can hear is the panting of the sledge dogs, their paws running fast and the squeaky sound of snow. You may be travelling at speed, but still you have the time to observe the breath-taking nature around you. Imagine this tour as a time machine, taking you back centuries, doing the same thing the Greenlanders have done through generations.
You should note that sledge dogs are NOT pets – they are working animals and are treated as such by their Greenlandic owners. Even so, there is no need to worry about the dogs being overburdened by the weight of the sledge and passengers. since they love pulling the sledge across frozen terrain, and they work as a team. Signs of hierarchy can be found within groups of dogs in dogsledding, are you ready to discover it for yourself?
To offer you the best memory of dogsledding, renting of warm seal fur clothing and polar boots are included in the price. If you are in the mood for a longer dogsledding trip, you can also contact us for an upgrade to a 4-hour adventure.
