Explore the vast inland ice cap in Kangerlussuaq

This tour is a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the Greenland Inland Ice Cap!
Point 660 has only recently been discovered and has thus far only been visited by a few intrepid adventurers. Indulge your adventurous spirit on this unmissable trip!
The Icecap in Greenland may seem like a large static block of ice, but it is anything but stationary. With an average thickness of 2 to 3 kilometres (about 1.25 to 1.75 miles), the ice cap is built with layers of ice and snow which have compacted into a frozen shell over thousands of years.
As the weight of new snow fall pushes the ice cap down, the ice is pushed outward towards the sea where is breaks of into icebergs that look like magnificent sculptures.
Our excursion to Ice Cap Point 660 starts with a drive through the Kangerlussuaq backcountry using 4WD-vehicle or coach. Enchanting sceneries of majestic mountains, sweeping plains, and an Arctic desert will greet us along the way. Near the ice cap, the hiking begins. Our route to Point 660 winds along a valley named Sandflugtsdal and a long meltwater river. Heading to Point 660, you may spot the Russel Glacier – an impressive 60-meter tall ice wall rising to the sky.

The destination of this excursion – Point 660 – is at the edge of Greenland Ice Cap. Take a deep breath of cold and refreshing air and prepare yourself for this impressive view. There is ice as far as your eyes can see. Gazing upon this magnificent landscape, Point 660 will make you feel like a very tiny being on top of a huge planet.
During this excursion, we will approximately spend 1 hour on the ice. Please note that even though a curvy path has been prepared for us to hike up onto the ice cap, it is not a simple task for everyone. Thus, it is advisable to wear proper hiking shoes.
Our drive back to civilization is also an unforgettable adventure as we pass a fascinating tundra landscape. We may spot some wildlife such as reindeer, musk oxen, and other species depending on the season.
