Day by day & Tour Map
Day 1 - Arrival Day, City Walk & Snowmobile
As your Air Iceland Connect flight passes through clouds and land steadily, your 5-day winter holiday begins, and it is destined to be adventurous. Upon arrival, our Arctic Adventure guide will meet you in the airport and drive you to Hotel Arctic. After check-in, there will be a welcome meeting and a guided city walk around Ilulissat. During the 1.5 hours experience, our Arctic Adventure guide will show you most of the highlights of this cosy town - the old part of town with its colonial buildings, the fishing harbour, the quaint museum and more.
After the city walk, if you are ready to get closer to the marvellous nature in Ilulissat, we would recommend you the Snowmobile Tour at Night. Guided by an experienced local guide, this excursion lasts 2.5 hours and offers a chance to drive a snowmobile into the wilderness at night. Remote places that you can only reach by powerful vehicles are within reach on the snowmobile tour. Please note that you must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving license to join this excursion. For those who don’t meet the requirements, they can join as a passenger.
Tonight, Hotel Arctic will prepare a 2-course dinner to welcome your arrival. After that, you can retire to your room for a well-earned rest. Or maybe you would rather stay up a little later in case the Northern Lights make a surprise appearance!

Optional Activities Snowmobile tour at night – 2.5 hours, Difficulty 3Day 2 - Sermermiut, Ice fjord & Dogsledding
After a nice breakfast is served at the hotel you can explore the town on your own or alternatively join one of our optional activities to explore traditional dogsledding and join the snowshoe hiking.
Hiking around UNESCO Ice fjord and Sermermiut is an easy hike to Sermermiut Valley, which once was home to an Inuit settlement. Even though Sermermiut is viewed as the ruins of Inuit village by official travel brochures, the real highlight of the walk is the magnificent views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Ice fjord. There will be plenty of photo opportunities!
Speaking of photo opportunities, Dog Sledding in Ilulissat is another must-do for Instagram memories. Dog sledging is as close to living history as you will get, having been the preferred mode of winter transport for Greenlanders for centuries. Sitting on the sledge and watching the surrounding speed past you is an unforgettable experience as it reflects the special bond between humans and sledge dogs which you will see on this tour.

Today you can experience a traditional way of survival: ice fishing. Alternatively, you can wander around in the city or perhaps relax at the hotel and enjoy the amazing views of the icebergs slowly floating by.
Ice fishing in Ilulissat has been a traditional way of surviving for centuries. In the Arctic, where winter means settlements are cut off from the rest of the world for months on end – the ability to hunt and fish has been vital for the locals. Today’s tour will take us onto the frozen sea where we will find the perfect spot for fishing. Bore a hole and catch your lines, hoping for a good catch. As we wait for the fish to (hopefully) bite, there will be hot drinks and your guide will tell local stories. This tour is the perfect introduction to the local way of life.
When you get back to the hotel, a 3-course dinner will be served to mark the ending of this memorable holiday. With icebergs floating by and maybe northern lights dancing in the sky, does life get any better?
