Feel the excitement of touching the ice cap yourself!
Packed ice fjord, gigantic icebergs and mysterious inland ice cap may be the most appealing factors that bring explorers to Greenland year after year. Even though the inland ice cap covers most of the area in Greenland, only a few spots can enable you to get close to it, touch it or step on it. Luckily, Narsarsuaq is one of these few spots.
Hiking to the Ice Cap with Arctic Adventure Guide takes you on hiking in the mountains. During the excursion, the ones who are in good physical shape may have the chance to walk down to the ice cap. Read this short itinerary and find more!
Before the starting time, Arctic Adventure guide will pick you up at the hotel you are staying and have a short introduction about this excursion. We will drive the bus into the wild of the settlement as far as the road leads us. Usually, we will get off the bus at Hospital Valley. From there, we continue this excursion by foot.
Hiking along the way, we walk through the Flower Valley. This area is flourished with colourful sub-arctic flora during the summer season. We will hike through the stream, the lake and enjoy picturesque sceneries. Peaceful and lively, this part of the excursion will fill your heart with calm and joy.
We will have lunch at the top of a 300 metres high mountain where we can enjoy the views of the glacier and the ice cap. For participants in good physical condition, it is possible to walk down and touch the ice cap!
After lunch, we hike our way back to the starting point. The bus will be waiting there to bring us to our hotels.
This excursion lasts around 8 hours and has a difficulty level of 4. Please make sure to wear appropriate clothes and shoes to join this excursion.
If you would like to enjoy the hiking with a shorter duration in Narsarsuaq, you can check this excursion: Short Hike to the Ridge, which will take you to the flower valley and overlook of the glacier in the distance.
