Living in the Arctic is not easy, and in the wintertime, you need to work hard to survive for example by fishing on frozen fjords. The weather is usually calm in Kangerlussuaq, but the winter cold can be brazing, so outdoor clothing suitable for Arctic conditions is recommended as we want you to fully enjoy the fresh air, unique journey and wonderful everyday life in the Arctic.
On this tour we will drive 13 kilometres (about 8 miles) outside Kangerlussuaq, in order to find the perfect fishing spot on the vast frozen fjord. We will access the cold waters by digging a hole using ice drills through the thick icy surface, and then drop our fishing lines carefully. Now it’s time to wait patiently and cross your fingers for a great catch! Hot drinks and fascinating stories about fishing are already ready for you while you are testing your luck.
Ice fishing on the fjord is a unique local experience for both expert and newbie. Winter rules Greenland for most time of the year, but not the sea! The ocean is generous with people, and ice fishing is an essential part of local life. Through ice fishing on the fjord, you can touch the traditional fishing equipment by hand, dig a hole using ice drill, and feel the excitement when a fish bites the hook!

For this excursion, we receive booking till 4 days prior to the departure time of the excursion. However, please note that limited seats are provided. Late booking may be unavailable.

EQUIPMENT LIST
- Other clothing should be picked according to weather that day, you will not get much colder on the glacier as on the ground.
- Sturdy Hiking Boots – waterproof with good ankle support.
- Woollen/or thermal windproof hat, which covers your neck (alternatively, thermal face mask);
- Woollen/or thermal gloves (ideal as a base layer under waterproof gloves or mittens);
- Woollen/or thermal socks
- Warm, insulated winter jacket and snow trousers or salopettes;
- Woollen long sleeved shirts/or thermal shirts
- Thick sweater and woollen pullovers;
- Heat pads for hands and feet (especially for dog sled tours).
