During a guided walk through town, the guide will tell the history of Ilulissat.
The best way to start your adventures in Ilulissat is to walk around the town with an experienced guide. During this 1.5-hour city sightseeing, you will get closer to the Arctic adventure you have embarked on, Ilulissat and Greenland itself.
Our Arctic Adventure tour guide will pick you up from Hotel Arctic and drive you to the starting point of the walk. Together with our guide, we will walk past most of the important sites in Ilulissat and get to know better its history and culture.
Greenlandic handicraft is unique, and you shouldn’t miss the chance to meet some of the artisans. We will visit a local handcraft shop where you can buy the well-designed handicraft and see the crafting work in progress.
Sitting peacefully next to the ocean, Ilulissat enjoys rich resources from the sea. We will also visit the harbour. It is regarded as the busiest place in the town since many boats and ships come and go every day, some taking tourists out sightseeing, others are heading out to the fishing grounds. Here, you will also learn about the fishing history in Greenland.
On the way, we will walk through the apartment buildings, Church of Zion, and colourful houses. You can also enjoy the magnificent view of icebergs and spot Disko Island if it is sunny.
Ilulissat Museum (also called Knud Rasmussen Museum) is also a highlight of the journey. Knud Rasmussen is the idol for most of the residents here, visit the charming little building to find out why!
The museum covers the achievements of Knud Rasmussen and the history of Ilulissat. It is a place worth spending some time on. Outside the museum, you can find some unique facilities, we won’t divulge what their function is and what material they are made from – you have to discover that with your tour guide.
Admission to the museum is included in the price.
