Optional Activities Snowmobile tour at night – 2.5 hours, Difficulty 3Day 2 - Sermermiut, UNESCO World Heritage Ice Fjord, Dog sledding & Snowshoe hiking
After having a hearty breakfast at the hotel, a brand-new day of adventures awaits you. Today you can choose to explore the town on your own or join some of our optional excursions.
Hiking around the UNESCO World Heritage Ice Fjord and Sermermiut. This is one of the most classic tours in Ilulissat and a ‘must-do’ for any visitor. The 2-hour trip combines natural beauty with a few historical aspects of Ilulissat. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ilulissat Ice Fjord is packed with icebergs, stuck in the frozen sea ice during the winter, creating a beautiful view that is hard to describe with words. Walking on the wooden board walk which leads to amazing viewpoints of the ice fjord, we will pass the remains of an early Inuit settlement - Sermermiut. Sermermiut is not just a ruined village where the Inuit once lived, it is also located in the mouth of the ice fjord, where you can get a closer view of the amazing ice fjord.
After the hike, you can join a traditional dog sledding tour. People say Ilulissat is home to as many as sledge dogs as the number of residents (and they are probably right). Sledge dogs are not pets! They are working animals and trusted buddies of their owners. Even though they look fluffy and cute, the wild instinct remains strong within their genes. You should always keep a safe distance with them and never approach, pet or feed them, no matter what!
If you prefer a longer hike into the Greenlandic winter wonderland, you can choose a 4-hour Snowshoe Hike to the Ice Fjord. This tour gives you the opportunity to wear snowshoes and hike around the UNESCO World Heritage Ice Fjord, an extraordinary experience!
Optional Activities Hiking around the UNESCO Ice Fjord and Sermermiut– 2 hours, Difficulty 2 Dog Sledding in Ilulissat – 2 hours, difficulty 2 Snowshoe Hike to the Ice Fjord in Ilulissat – 4 hours, Difficulty 3Day 3 Ice Fishing & Night Sky
Today you can join optional activities such as ice fishing, snowmobile tours and a night sky photo class. Alternatively, you can wander around in the city or perhaps relax at the hotel and enjoy the amazing views of the icebergs slowly floating by.
Everyone can enjoy ice fishing in Ilulissat, no matter what your experience level is. When the sea ice is thick enough, sea fishing season begins in Ilulissat. We travel with an experienced English-speaking guide to find a perfect spot to bore a hole, drop in the fishing line, and wait for a big catch. Cold weather and the snow-covered land will make the world seem tranquil and lifeless, but under the thick ice it is teeming with life and hopefully you can bring home a good catch!
This evening, you can join our Night Sky photography class and learn to take professional pictures of the mythical Northern Lights in the backcountry outside Ilulissat.
Tonight, a 3-course dinner is prepared to mark a happy and satisfactory ending to your adventurous winter holiday in Ilulissat.
Optional Activities Ice Fishing in Ilulissat – 3 hours, Difficulty 2 Night Sky Photography Class (on request) – 2.5 hours, Difficulty 2Day 4 - Kaffemik & Goodbye Ilulissat

Come to a Kaffemik event and be part of a truly Greenlandic tradition. Over a cup of strong coffee and a piece of cake, you will hear about your hosts’ family history, their unique traditions and what life is like 280kms north of the Polar Circle.
