The perfect chance to know more about local tradition and lifestyles

“Kaffemik” means “coffee please” in Greenlandic. This tour offers you a chance to meet the locals, listen to their stories, know about their tradition, and get closer to their lifestyle.

When you are traveling, some people want to “eat local”, “drink local,” and “behave like locals”. But is there any other way that can link you to the locals closer than this Kaffemik tour? The local guide will take you to the meeting point at Tupilak office, and from there, we will walk together to the local’s home and have a glimpse into how life is like when living in Greenland. People here are warm-hearted, welcome, and usually treat you like you have known each other for years.

This tour offers a chance to experience the tradition of Kaffemik and learn about culture, tradition, and family stories. Residents in Greenland are famed for their warm welcome and enjoy inviting visitors to their home and chatting to you as an old friend. Over a cup of coffee and a piece of home-made cake, you can bond and build a connection to a culture which for centuries was isolated from the rest of the world! You can hear the latest gossip, family updates and maybe have a chance to see the national costume.

Kaffemik means “Coffee please” in Greenlandic. In local life, Kaffemik stands for a social gathering and is held to celebrate almost any events from birthdays, first day at school, and anniversaries to leaving parties or ‘just because’. In a country where towns are small and life for centuries was dictated by nature, the Kaffemik was the life affirming glue that kept communities together.

There is no need to worry about the language issues as your guide will be there to translate, but you will probably also find that with a little imagination, a few friendly gestures and facial expressions, you can cross any cultural and language barrier.

There is no better way to experience local life than this trip! Book the tour and join us.
