Explore the northernmost capital in the world!
With the latitude of 64°10′ N, Nuuk is the northernmost capital in the world. Join our sightseeing tour of the city, and you will experience the highlights of Nuuk in less than two hours.
We depart from Tupilak Travel Office located at Ilivinnguaq 1, and the tour guide will drive you through the city and its neighbourhoods. As home to 16,000 residents, Nuuk enjoys a multi-facetted history thus the theme of the city tour is “time machine” as we take you from modern Nuuk to its humble origin centuries ago.
We start by traveling back in time to the 1970s which is celebrated in the design of the housing estate in Nuussuaq. Then we go back to the 1950s in the Nuutoquq area which is known for its colourful houses and the apartments in the city centre.
The old colonial harbour will mark an ending to our travel through the time machine – this harbour is the place where Hans Egede first arrived in the 1700th century. Hans Egede was a Danish-Norwegian Christian missionary and fondly known as ‘The Apostle of Greenland’. He successfully established a Christian mission in Greenland and founded Nuuk the same time.
This tour will take you to almost every corner and famous attractions in Nuuk, for example, the Hans Egede Statue and cathedral. Next to the old harbour, you can find the national museum, where you can spend more time to explore the interesting history of Nuuk.
