There we can visit the old Norse ruins as well as the church ruin, which is the best-preserved from the Norse period. Continue reading for detailed information.
Arctic Adventure guide will contact you by phone about the exact departure time. Make sure to leave the correct and reachable phone number for a smooth communication if there are any changes.
Pick up and transfer are not included in this excursion. Please walk to the harbour yourself. Search “Kongeboren, Qaqortoq” on google and you can find the right place to board on the boat.
Once everyone is ready, we head to the harbour and sail out into the sea to start today’s adventure. Hvalsey is only 30 min sailing distance from Qaqortoq. This moderate sailing distance can both let you enjoy the beautiful fjords and ensure you not get too cold from the sea wind.
When we arrive at Hvalsey, Arctic Adventure guide will lead us around. Follow the grass-path, you will find yourself in front of the church ruin, which is the main attraction of this excursion. The existence of this church is one of the important evidence of the Norse settlement in Greenland. A wedding in the church in 1408 is the last written evidence we have from the Norse settlement in Greenland.
This excursion takes you to this beautiful and peaceful countryside with historical value. During this excursion, you will have sufficient time walking around, exploring the ruins, and immersing yourself with the calm nature.
