Day 1 - Arrival Day, City Walk & Northern Light | Ilulissat
Board your Air Greenland flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq first, and after a short break, Air Greenland will take you from Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat. Upon your arrival, our Arctic Adventure guide will meet you in the airport and drive you to Hotel Arctic, where a welcome meeting is held after check-in.
Once you have settled in, our Arctic Adventure guide will take you on a city walk of Ilulissat to get a glimpse of the culture, history and attractions in town. Ilulissat has a long history, great location and a wide range of excursions to choose from. During the sightseeing, you will walk by the fishing harbour, colonial buildings, the old church and more. Depends on the actual timing, we may also have the change to visit Ilulissat museum to learn more about the history of Ilulissat.
The city walk in Ilulissat usually takes around one hour and a half. When you are back to the hotel, a 2-course dinner will be ready for you to enjoy. After that, if you want to end the day with something special, you can join our optional activity – Night Sky Photography – to learn how to take professional pictures of the northern lights!
The excursion Night Sky Photography departures at Hotel Hvide Falk, please go there by yourself or book extra transfer service with our tour guide at the welcome meeting.

Today you can explore the town on your own or join some of our optional activities to create your perfect winter adventure.
Ilulissat Ice Fjord was awarded UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004 and attracts tourists from all over the world. The Hiking around the UNESCO Ice Fjord and Sermermiut excursion will follow an easy-to-navigate track and our tour guide will show you around the gigantic ice fjord area and the historical remains of the Sermermiut Inuit settlement. Alongside the way, there are more hidden spots and interesting local stories to explore. This tour is about 2 hours long and it is suitable for everyone.
An important part of travelling is gaining an insight into local life and if you can join our “Kaffemik” event, you will have the opportunity to chat with locals and learn about their lives and local traditions over a cup of coffee.

Travelling over the frozen sea ice, we will departure from Hotel Arctic, follow the experienced tour guide to find the perfect fishing spot, bore a hole in the thick ice and throw in our lines. This tour is suitable for everyone who loves nature even if you are not experienced in fishing.
When you return to the hotel at night, a 3-course dinner is prepared as a suitable “goodbye” to this isolated yet beautiful town – Ilulissat.

It’s time to say goodbye to Ilulissat, and hello to Kangerlussuaq. Our Arctic Adventure guide will pick you up in the morning from the hotel and take you to the airport, where Air Greenland will fly you in low altitude to Kangerlussuaq where the next part of our next journey begins!
Upon your arrival, the local tour guide in Kangerlussuaq will throw you an information meeting at Hotel Kangerlussuaq. Then you are free to start your own adventures in and around the settlement! With the greatest number of clear days in Greenland, Kangerlussuaq is perfect for hiking. Today, you can choose to join the excursion to the recently discovered Point 660 to experience the enchanting view of an ice-covered wonderland. We will drive in 4WD vehicles and transfer to and from your hotel is included. Make sure you wear warm clothes and sturdy boots with profiled soles so you can fully enjoy the hike around Point 660.
After exploring ice cap Point 660, if you have extra energy, you can join the sightseeing in Kangerlussuaq tour, which take you to all the important sights on Kangerlussuaq, this former US airbase.

The popular Tundra Safari will show you the wildlife in Kangerlussuaq, like reindeer, musk oxen and more. The Dog Sledding trip in Kangerlussuaq offers a chance for you to experience the well-preserved traditional transportation method, which is still the most convenient method of travelling in the Arctic winter season. You should note that sledge dogs are NOT pets – they are working animals and are treated as such by their Greenlandic owners.
There are 2 dog sledding tours with different durations for you to choose from. You can select the most suitable one based on your availability.
Once you have finished your optional activities and are ready to return home, the local tour guide will take you to the airport. Your mind will be filled with unforgettable memories and Arctic adventures.

Practical Information
FAQ
1. For optional activities in Ilulissat, transfer from Hotel Arctic to Departure Location before and after the tour is NOT included in the price. Please contact your tour guide if you wish to book pick-up and drop-off transfers.
2. For snowmobile, dogsledding tours and ice fishing tours, certain thickness of snow and ice are required. Based on the actual conditions of snow and ice, Arctic Adventure reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the tours.
3. For snowshoe hiking, the tour guide will decide whether snowshoes and hiking poles are necessary or not based on the actual conditions of snow and ice.
4. For snowmobile tours, all participants in this tour must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving license. If you don’t meet those requirements, you can join the excursions as a passenger.
5. For dogsledding tours, you should always keep a safe distance with them and never approach, pet or feed them, no matter what!
6. We suggest you book the optional activities when booking this tour since limited number of seats are provided.
7. If the tour is cancelled due to weather conditions, failure to reach the minimum number of participants or other unpredictable situations, Arctic Adventure ApS reserves the right to cancel the tour. For tours cancelled by Arctic Adventure ApS under this situation, our customers will get a 100% refund.
8. If participants fail to participant the excursions based on their personal reasons (no show), Arctic Adventure ApS will not provide any refund.

For this excursion, we receive booking till the 5 weeks to the departure time of the excursion. However, please note that limited seats are provided. Late booking may be unavailable.
Weather in Greenland can be quite unpredictable, thus, cancellations and reschedule may occur.
If the excursion is cancelled due to weather conditions, failure to reach the minimum number of participants or other unpredictable situations, Arctic Adventure ApS reserves the right to cancel the excursion. For excursions cancelled by Arctic Adventure ApS under this situation, our customers will get a 100% refund.

EQUIPMENT LIST
- Other clothing should be picked according to weather that day, you will not get much colder on the glacier as on the ground.
