Day 1 - Arrival Day & City Sightseeing | Reykjavik

Welcome to Reykjavik! A Flybus shuttle bus ticket is included in the tour package to transfer you from Keflavik airport to your hotel without worries. Reykjavik is a clean city with a lot to explore. Today you can discover the city freely or join our optional activities to drive around the city with an experienced local guide.

Reykjavik City Sightseeing by minibus takes around 3 hours and you will see the highlights of Reykjavik in terms of architecture, culture and history. Harpa concert hall and the well-known Hallgrímskirkja church are some of the stops along the way. Pick up service is included in our Reykjavik excursions.

Day 2 - City Walk | Ilulissat

Flying with Air Iceland Connect from Reykjavik to Ilulissat, your adventure begins as the aircraft flies in low altitude over the Inland Ice Cap in preparation to land in Ilulissat! Our Arctic Adventure tour guide will pick you up at the airport and drive you to Hotel Arctic. After check-in, there will be an informative welcome meeting and a guided city walk in Ilulissat. During the 1.5-hour sightseeing walk, you will see the old town, ancient buildings, the fishing harbour and more.

When you are back to the hotel, a 2-course dinner will be served at Hotel Arctic to ease the tiredness and prepare yourself for new adventures tomorrow!

Day 3 - Sermermiut, Ice fjord, Dog sledding & Snowshoeing | Ilulissat

Ilulissat is known as “town of icebergs” in Greenland, and with no doubt, it is worthy of the name. You may have already witnessed the gigantic icebergs through your hotel windows or during the city walk yesterday. Today you can explore Ilulissat on your own, or you can opt for our optional activities to learn more about the icebergs and snow-covered Ilulissat.

Hiking around UNESCO Ice fjord and Sermermiut is a classic experience Ilulissat for both locals and tourists. This 2-hour journey combines natural beauty and historical aspects of Ilulissat. Ilulissat ice fjord is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Packed with floating icebergs, the ice fjord showcases natural beauty that is hard to describe – you will find yourself taking pictures at every turn! Walking on the wooden track through Sermermiut Valley, your guide will tell you about the small Inuit settlement which once called the valley home. Continue the journey, we will hike on hilly terrains to appreciate the beauty of icebergs from different angles and experience the sense of achievement of conquering the wild land.

After the hiking, you may want to experience traditional Dog Sledding in Ilulissat. People say Ilulissat is home to as many as sledge dogs as residents (and it is probably true!). Sledge dogs are not pets, instead, they are the most loyal friend and trusted buddies. Sitting on the sledge, you will experience a sense of freedom as you travel through the Arctic winter wonderland on this most authentic of transport modes in Greenland. The breed of sledge dogs in Greenland, unlike other parts of the world, is pure Greenlandic dog who is well-known for its wild instant and strength. You should not approach them without having permission from their owner.

If you wish to go on a longer hike into the ice-covered world, you can choose our 4-hour Snowshoe Hiking to the Ice Fjord in Ilulissat. This is a unique opportunity to wear snowshoes and hike around the UNESCO World Heritage Ice Fjord and get a more in-depth adventure in Ilulissat.

Day 4 - Ice Fishing & Night Sky | Ilulissat

After breakfast at the hotel, a brand-new day of adventure awaits you. Today you can join our optional activities, for example, ice fishing, snowmobile or a night sky photo shoot. Alternatively, you can opt to walk around in the town or perhaps just lounge at the hotel watching the icebergs slowly floating by.

Everyone can enjoy Ice fishing in Ilulissat, as no previous experience in needed to have a great day out. Travel with an experienced guide to find a perfect spot on the thick, frozen sea ice, bore a hole, throw in your fishing line – and wait! The crisp, cold air and white-covered land may give the impression of a tranquil and lifeless world, but under the ice it is teeming with fish and hopefully some of them will grab the bait on your line. Ice fishing tour takes around 3 hours, and it a unique opportunity to experience a side to local life that few tourists get.

At night, you can join our Night Sky photography tour to learn how to take professional pictures at night. Capture the white moon and snow, as it glistens in the Arctic darkness and hopefully get a few shots of the splendid northern lights.

Tonight, Hotel Arctic will prepare you with a 3-course dinner to mark a satisfactory ending to your last night stay in Ilulissat.

Day 5 - Kaffemik & Goodbye Ilulissat | Ilulissat

Today it’s time to say goodbye to charming Ilulissat and fly back to Reykjavik around lunchtime. Before our guide drives you to the airport, you may want to experience local life in Greenland. Kaffemik takes around 1.5 hours and is a great way of meeting the locals. Over a cup strong coffee and a piece of cake, you will hear about recent gossip, family history, traditions and much more. It is the perfect way to round off your time in Greenland!

Upon your arrival at Reykjavik Domestic Airport, the local guide will take you to Hotel Reykjavik Centrum in a private car. You can have a rest and prepare yourself for tomorrow’s adventure.

Day 6 - Golden Circle or South Iceland | Reykjavik

Reykjavik is a city with a vibrant feel to it and today you can explore Reykjavik one your own or join one of our classic tours to explore the capital region.

One optional activity is the Golden Circle Classic. This popular tour takes around 7 hours. We will drive northeast and stop at the most famous attractions along the way - Thingvellir National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Gullfoss, a majestic waterfall; and the Great Geysir – to name a few. Pick up service is included for a more comfortable journey.

Our South Iceland excursion is another great daytrip. On this tour, we drive southeast to visit unique farmlands, mountains, glaciers, volcanos, and the roaring Atlantic Ocean. Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the black sand beach in Vik, Reynisdrangar are some of the attractions you will see along the way. This tour is around 10 hours in a comfortable coach, and pick-up service is included.

Tomorrow will be the departure day. Please inform the hotel reception about your flight time tonight to get your airport shuttle bus ticket.

Day 7 - Departure day & Goodbye Reykjavik

All good things must come to an end, and today is the time to say goodbye to the North Atlantic. We will provide you with a Flybus ticket to ensure your transfer from the hotel to Keflavik Airport. Please inform the hotel reception about your flight schedule the night before departure to reserve a seat on the correct Flybus departure.

FAQ

1. For optional activities in Ilulissat, transfer from Hotel Arctic to departure location before and after the tour is NOT included in the price. Please contact your tour guide if you wish to book pick-up and drop-off transfers.
2. For optional activities in Reykjavik, pick-up services are included. Please consult at the Hotel reception for the nearest pick-up point.
3. For snowmobile, dogsledding tours and ice fishing tours, certain thickness of snow and ice are required. Based on the actual conditions of snow and ice, Arctic Adventure reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the tours.
4. For snowshoe hiking, the tour guide will decide whether snowshoes and hiking poles are necessary or not based on the actual conditions of snow and ice.
5. For snowmobile tours, all participants in this tour must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving license. If you don’t meet those requirements, you can join the excursions as a passenger.
6. For dogsledding tours, you should always keep a safe distance with them and never approach, pet or feed them, no matter what!
7. Please follow safety regulations and the guidelines of tour guides throughout the journey.
8. We suggest you book the optional activities when booking this tour since limited number of seats are provided.
9. If the tour is cancelled due to weather conditions, failure to reach the minimum number of participants or other unpredictable situations, Arctic Adventure ApS reserves the right to cancel the tour. For tours cancelled by Arctic Adventure ApS under this situation, our customers will get a 100% refund.
10. If participants fail to participant the excursions based on their personal reasons (e.g. no show), Arctic Adventure ApS will not provide any refund.
11. Please note the decision to cancel is made through evaluation of actual weather situation, number of participants, and other unpredictable factors, not the customer.
